Supported Volunteering Placements for Young People aged 14 – 20
Transform is a supported volunteering project for young people who would to like to build confidence and gain skills in a supported environment. There are three different opportunities that are detailed below and young people can volunteer with no long term commitment. There is no lengthy application process, just an informal meeting and a short training session before commencing volunteering. We have spaces in many of our groups, so if you have any young people who may be interested please get in touch.
The project consists of three different opportunities:
- Befriending - Volunteers help deliver activity sessions to elderly residents living in Sheltered Housing complexes. Residents are sometimes isolated or have dementia, so this role is ideal for young people considering a career in care, or want to develop experience with different types of people.
- Activity Buddy - Volunteers help delivery lunchtime activity sessions with primary school pupils. Activities include outdoor games, music and arts and crafts. This opportunity is a great starting point in gaining experience with children.
- Gardening - Volunteers help in creating a community garden in Dalkeith Country Park. Tasks include fence making, constructing raised beds, growing fruit and vegetables, garden sculptures and much more.
