Volunteer Midlothian was delighted to receive the Patrick Brooke Partnership award at the Scottish Parliament on the 1st of October.

The Chair of Age Scotland presented the award to Volunteer Midlothian and the Citadel Arts Group for the work with the Retelling Our Stories Project.

This project could not have taken place without the equal contribution of both partners who brought together and established a group of people with dementia, initially to take part in a Living Memory project, which developed into  cross generational work  with Kings  Park School. During initial group sessions Vocal offered some separate input sessions for carers.

Local musicians were also involved and a song written specifically for the group by Caroline Pearson.  A play written by Cecilia Rose, based on people’s stories was later performed by the pupils of Kings Park School at an event in June.

The group continues to meet with the support of volunteers and plans to build on the connections made with Kings Park School.
