Community Links Dementia Art Exhibition

An exhibition of works of art created by people living with mid to late stages of dementia was on display in the Penicuik Library. Two groups supported by volunteers and Mags Bryan- Dementia Local Area Coordinator, in partnership with Art and Healthcare, offered this creative opportunity to people in the Dalkeith and Penicuik areas.

During the workshops people were both highly motivated and much more animated when focussing on the art. There was a real sense of fun and interest in both the artwork used for discussion and the opportunity to try out new materials.

The warmth, acceptance and encouragement by the two artists from Art in Healthcare offered a safe environment for people to explore their creativity and in so doing, gave them a new means of communication.

We would like to thank the artists Heather Lucchesi and Olivia Irvine, and Margaret O’Connor- Chief Executive, for all their support and hard work to make the exhibition for people with dementia and the overall art experience so positive.
