Winners announced in Volunteers' Week Awards 2010

Representatives from Ladywood Leisure Centre accept the Volunteer Team of the Year Award from Patrick Prenter CBE, Lord Lieutenant for Midlothian

The winners of the annual Volunteers' Week Awards were announced at a recent event held at McSense's Conference Centre in Mayfield.  The event, which was attended by all the winners, finalists and event sponsors took place as part of the annual Volunteers' Week celebrations which aims to recognise and reward volunteers' commitment and contribution throughout the year.

Welcoming everyone to the event Anne Moodie, Director of Volunteer Centre Midlothian said "People are catching on to the fact that volunteering can make a huge difference to a local community. Almost every aspect of our daily lives benefit from the input of volunteers - our schools, hospital, churches, places of work, shops, leisure activities and the environment. This event is our chance to formally recognise the unique contribution that volunteers make to the communities of Midlothian".

This year's ceremony has been made possible by the generous support given by our sponsors - Jewel & Esk College, Lothian & Borders Police and Esk Valley Rotary and with the support of McSense.

The sponsors presented the awards as folllows:

Jewel & Esk College Award for the Contribution to the Well Being of Others awarded to Supported Befrienders, Volunteer Centre Midlothian.

Esk Valley Rotary Award for Organisational Support awarded to Susan Scott, Stepping Forward Penicuik (Surestart project).

Lothian & Borders Police Award for Service to the Community awarded to Midlothian News & Views Talking Newspaper.
