Home Link Family Support recruiting in Midlothian
[Volunteer Centre Midlothian]
Home Link Family Support is accepting applications from Midlothian people to join their team of volunteer befrienders.
They have such a high demand for their service in Midlothian that they need to increase the number of people who have daytime availability to befriend families in this area. They are looking for people who have some experience and understanding of family life, to meet with the family with whom they are matched on a regular and agreed basis, building up a relationship of trust over a period of time through companionship and shared activities.
By offering reliable, confidential support, volunteer befrienders can help a family needing friendship, dealing with health issues, getting through post natal depression, coping as a lone parent, coping with twins or several children, settling into a new area, getting out and about and making use of local services.
Besides the volunteer induction training, each year, for a number of volunteers who are interested, support and materials are provided to put together a personal portfolio.
The next training takes place in Mayfield, Midlothian from 10am-4.30pm on Saturday 20th February, 27th February, 6th March & 13th March. Training covers a variety of topics including befriending, child protection, boundaries, confidentiality, play and building relationships. Travel and childcare costs will be reimbursed for the training and befriending.
If you are interested and would like more information contact Kate Watson, Volunteering Officer (Maternity Cover) on 0131 661 0890 or julie.b@homelinkbefriending.org .
